JSK Honors Outstanding Students at Annual Brunch and Awards Ceremony

On Friday, April 28, the students, teachers, and staff at JSK School congregated for a unique brunch and awards ceremony to commemorate the culmination of the academic year. The event was a chance to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions by students, as well as to enjoy some delicious food and socialize with friends. The atmosphere was filled with joyous chatter and the sound of friends mingling and celebrating together.

The ceremony was inaugurated with a welcome address by Principal; Ms. Brown, who expressed her appreciation to everyone for their dedication and unwavering commitment throughout the academic year. In addition, she extended her felicitations to the award winners and encouraged everyone to continue striving for excellence in all facets of their lives.

After the opening remarks, the award ceremony commenced in earnest. Awards were given in a variety of categories, including Academic achievement, High honor rolls, Honors rolls, Perfect attendance, Academic improvement, Leadership, and lastly the JSK Neweis! Each award winner was called up to highlight their certificate skills and a round of applause from their peers.

In addition to the awards, there were plenty of opportunities to take photos and capture memories of the event. Students and teachers snapped pictures with JSK friends and staff, capturing memories that they would treasure for years to come.

It was clear that the awards ceremony was not just a celebration of individual achievement, but also a reminder of the power of community and the importance of supporting one another.

The brunch that followed the ceremony was a festive affair. Of course, no brunch would be complete without some delicious food, and the JSK School brunch did not disappoint in this regard. Attendees enjoyed a variety of breakfast foods, including pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, and more. There were also plenty of beverages and desserts to go around, ensuring that everyone left feeling satisfied and happy.

See some of the JSK Team feedback!-

How do you think this event impacts the school community? “Benchmark Brunches and Award Ceremonies are one of my favorite traditions at JSK. They provide an opportunity to celebrate student success! Oftentimes grades can be viewed punitively, but when we celebrate every milestone-both big and small, we celebrate progress! This event also gives us all a chance to be reflective and take a good long look at where we’ve been and where we want to go. At JSK we ground ourselves in the idea that we expect progress, not perfection. Benchmark brunch & award ceremony is the embodiment of that ideal.”-  Ms. Brown

How did you feel when you saw the students receiving their awards? “I felt proud of the students and it was nice to acknowledge some highlights. I feel bad that not everyone can get an award because everyone should be recognized for their hard work, but hope that it is motivating to witness classmates be celebrated. Kudos to all.”- Ms. Hunkele

What has been the most rewarding part of advising the school newspaper?I would say the most rewarding part of advising the school newspaper is giving students the chance to exercise their first amendment rights and seeing students use the newspaper as a platform to not only articulate their passion, skills, and build community, but also empower them as citizens in their school, community, and world. I am filled with pride to see students see themselves as part of the solution in a world that usually sees them as the problem or incapable.” – Ms. JP.

Do you have any advice for students who hope to receive an award in the future?I think If you really want to achieve an award in the future then you’ll work hard and put in as much effort to earn the award, there aren’t excuses the teachers here are willing to help in any way they can.” – Sarah T.

How did you feel when you saw your name on the list of award winners? For me it was great. I had fun. I took a lot of pictures which will help me go forward with my plans for the future and I got some awards” – Darsen D.

What did you enjoy the most about the JSK Brunch & Award Ceremony? – “The food was delicious, especially Ms. Cruz’s banana pudding. She makes the best ones yet and everyone should try it. Overall I’ve got so many awards and I feel proud. After we played Uno and Dominos with each other, I think it was a good time.” – Darla D.
