My Brothers Keeper
The New York State My Brother’s Keeper initiative seeks to “Change the Narrative” of boys and young men of color, and all students, by closing and eliminating the opportunity gaps they face and helping them to reach their full potential. A group of seven JSK students traveled to Brooklyn to attend the D79 My Brothers Keeper end-of-year celebration. These amazing students represented the school well, learned about networking, and overall left encouraged regarding how to be accountable to themselves and others. Special shout out to all the young men that attended.
“The trip was amazingly helpful. I say that because the way they spoke was very motivational and I got some great advice. I learned to take things slow, and nothing comes without putting in the work.” – Darsen Drouillard
“The trip to MBK was fun and exciting, but at the beginning of the trip, I thought it was boring. It got better once speakers were called. A speaker offered paid social media internships on the spot, which woke me up and made me listen more about what they had to say. They had food that was a 10/10, but the iced tea was so good it was like a 12/10 like you had to be there to have some. At the end, we took some pictures with the Superintendent of JSK and went home. It was a great trip!”- Jameer Washington
