Black History Production Trip “The Lost Letters of the Buffalo Soldiers”
Thanks to Christian Cultural Center for the invitation to their annual Black History Production on Thursday, February 16, 2023. This year’s performance focused on “The Lost Letters of the Buffalo Soldiers.”
“Lost Letters of the Buffalo Soldiers”
is an artistic exploration into the hearts, minds, and souls of the
buffalo soldiers. Through song, dance, and spoken word, we are
transported into the world of these legendary soldiers. We
explore their past, their present, and their future. Their stories
are told through letters created by the artist.
Lights fade up on a tap dancer, a hoofer, in a pool of light dancing
out the rhythms of marching feet, and horses galloping. An image
appears on the screen behind the dancer. The image depicts the
buffalo soldiers on horseback in battle position. We start to hear
a low rhythmic hum of a choir. A single voice soars through the
hums like an eagle surveying a terrain. As we are being
transported to the western frontier we hear a voice shout out
“ What is a legacy? Where is Legacy? You can search everywhere in the world, but you won’t find it until you look inside of
you!” Our story begins.
According to Andrew Reeves,
My classmates and I went on a field trip to CCC to see a performance about buffalo troops. As soon as we got there, everything was really nice. Before explaining the meaning of the term “buffalo soldiers,” they cracked jokes to get us in the mood.
