On October 9th at JSK, there was a voter’s registration drive, that allowed students to register to vote. Over 20 students registered to vote and some students even applied to be Election Poll workers. This drive turned out to be more than just an opportunity to register to vote but a learning experience for many young adults.
After the Voter’s registration I, Lynise Williams, had the honor to interview one of the counselors who made this drive possible, Mr. Jeff. When asked who was his main focus with hosting this drive and why he stated “The students because when it came to voting, this year, I think it is extremely important overall that they are aware of not just the upcoming elections but of how they could be more involved locally with things that happen within their neighborhood.”
Additionally, when asked if he believed this would motivate young adults to vote he states “I hope so, we had a good turnout. I think just based on the pocket conversation that took place afterwards, if anything I would think students were at least more willing to research and find out things for themselves and what they should do when it comes to political stuff.” Lastly, when asked if he believes everyone’s questions were answered after this drive he states “I think so, and if not at least their in a space where they can take the time to figure it out”
