Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year. It’s enjoyed and celebrated worldwide. Decorating, gift giving, ice skating, hot chocolate, candy canes and so much more! Many people have different ways of celebrating Christmas. Whether it be at home with family (traditional ways) or going out on vacations.

Judith S. Kaye High School is showing a lot of its Christmas spirit. All the teachers have decided to partake in a decorating contest where they decorate their classroom doors. Each door represents a movie, theme, or mood in Christmas. Many of their doors have something to do with Christmas movies like The Grinch, A Charlie Brown Christmas, etc. One teacher, Ms. Hunkele decided to do something with the subject that she teaches instead of a movie theme. Her door represented outer space. But still incorporating the Christmas theme by adding a snowman as her main focus with a background filled with different planets.

Another way JSK showed their Christmas spirit was also by doing spirit week! From December 18th to the 22nd, Monday: ugly sweater day, Tuesday was holiday character day, Wednesday was flannel/plaid day, Thursday was holiday cheer day and Friday was pajama day. Not only was it spirit week but Culinary, automotive, teacher, and the counselors’ office all had amazing snacks and food to give their students an exciting, fulfilling, and memorable last day in JSK. They made soft cookies, different sweet treats, and whole meals to show their Christmas spirit! The options were endless. Ranging from Hot cocoa and cookies to full meals like baked mac and cheese, chicken wings, collard greens, broccoli, etc. This was a great way to start winter break and an amazing moment for students.

As for the decorative doors, there were a lot that you could tell what the vision was when designing the door. Teachers such as Ms.Rosangel, Mr Ramos, The counselor’s office, and Miss Pierre all had different themes but executed them perfectly. A door that made me say “WOW!” Was Mr. Ramos’s door. The art teacher. Which wasn’t a surprise to see. Since he teaches students how to draw and paint on a day-to-day basis. His door theme was A Charlie Brown Christmas. Having a 3D shed above the door with Charlie, his dog, and Christmas lights, Along with adding himself in his design. Almost looking like one of the characters in the movie. When asking him about his door, he says that there could’ve been easier ways to achieve this design and finish faster but it still came out exactly how he wanted.

Another close runner upper to Mr Ramos I would have to say Ms Brown’s door. Her theme automatically was a giveaway. Her main focus is a gingerbread house with real candy canes and other candies. The background was giving off a “day during winter” with snow falling from “the sky” and snow and Christmas trees and snow on the bottom of her door. One thing that could’ve made this design better would be making some of the trees or snow 3D. The real candy was an amazing touch but could have added more to achieve the theme they were going for. Even though she didn’t design the door herself, a student did. It still had a lot of creativity and originality to it.

One door that could’ve topped all the other doors would’ve been Ms.Del Mar and Ms Perez. Their door theme was based on the movie “Elf”. Ways it could’ve been better was by filling in the blank space. There was only one main decoration on the door which was the elf’s feet and shoes, a candy cane stick on the doorknob with a quote “Discover your inner elf.” The theme execution attempt could’ve been a 5 if they executed it better and put more thought into it. Their attention to detail wasn’t executed perfectly and also could’ve been better. But their theme was very noticeable.

Judith S Kaye High School did not fail to show their Christmas spirit. Decorating the doors, staff dressing up, and culinary making Christmas goods all tied it together. This year wasn’t a disappointment and I can’t wait to see what ideas and decorations they come up with next year. In the Judith S Kaye high school, there is

Christmas spirit in the air! Maybe next year the bar will be set even higher than what was set this year.
