To honor Indigenous people for the month of November,  students at the Queens location, JSK High School visited the National Museum of the American Indian right before Thanksgiving.
The museum is a part of the Smithsonian Institution.  The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. And while most of the Smithsonian’s museums are located in the capital of the US, New York City is fortunate enough to have the National Museum of the American Indian Downtown Manhattan.
The museum captures the brutal and complex nature of colonization and its impact on  many Native American populations. However, the museum was able to display a lot of the culture that is often forgotten when discussing Native Americans in the US. There were a ton of artifacts that were being preserved such as: wedding dresses, jewelry, pottery and much more.
Entry to the museum is free all year round.
